NEWTON FALLS 37, CAMPBELL 36: NEWTON FALLS — Adam Honeycutt hit a 3-pointer with 6.2 seconds left to win it for the Tigers.
Honeycutt’s 3 — his third of the game — gave Newton Falls (5-4, 4-0) a one-point lead. Campbell missed a 3 in the final seconds, and while the ensuing putback went in, the shot came after the buzzer sounded.
Honeycutt was the only Tiger player to score in double figures. Newton Falls had to rally from a 21-15 halftime deficit, and they did just that, outscoring the Red Devils, 22-15, in the final two quarters. Seven of the Tigers’ 11 field goals were 3-pointers.
Trey Edwards of Campbell led all scorers with 15, including the Red Devils’ only 3-pointer. Campbell also went 11-of-21 from the line.
GIRARD 57, LIBERTY 48: LIBERTY — A good first half for Girard gave it the cushion it needed to defeat Liberty in All-American Conference Blue Tier action.
Girard (5-6, 2-3) led 35-25 at halftime. The Indians were led by Austin Claussell and Christian Graziano with 15 points each. Mark Waid finished with 10 rebounds while Anthony Backus led the team with four assists.
Liberty (2-7, 1-4) got close early in the fourth quarter as it got with two at 44-42 and again at 48-46 before Girard hit sone clutch free throws to take the game. The Leopards were led by Ezell Brown with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Dra Rushton finished with seven points, six assists and three steals.
Girard outrebounded Liberty, 29-28.
LAKEVIEW 76, BROOKFIELD 49: CORTLAND — Lakeview outscored Brookfield 34-17 over the middle two quarters on the way to a non-conference rout.
The Bulldogs (7-3) led 19-17 after the first quarter, then increased their advantage to 36-26 at halftime and 53-34 after three quarters.
Daniel Evans led the winners with 22 points, AJ McClellan scored 16 and TJ Lynch added 13.
Brookfield (0-9) was led by Conner Stevens with 18 points and Brady Reichart and Nate Smoot with 11 apiece.
NILES 73, JEFFERSON 67: NILES — Using a good third quarter and a quality performance from Cyler Kane-Johnson, Niles got its first win of the year over Jefferson in All-American Conferecne White Tier play.
Niles (2-9, 1-5) got 33 points from Kane-Johnson including 14 free throws. Da’Jon Motley finished with 13 points for the Red Dragons.
Jefferson (0-5 AAC-W) got outscored by eight in the third quarter and that became the difference. The Falcons were led by Andrew Vance with 28 points including six 3-pointers.
Jefferson hit seven threes to Niles’ five.
POLAND 67, HUBBARD 39: HUBBARD — A good defensive first half for Poland allowed it to remain undefeated on the year with a win over Hubbard.
Poland (9-0, 5-0 All-American Conference White Tier) took a big halftime lead, 39-17, and never looked back. The Bulldogs were led by Braeden O’Shaungnessy with 21 points and Daniel Kramer with 17 points.
Hubbard (4-5, 3-2) was led by Davion Daniels with nine points and Nick Ferrara with eight points.
Poland hit five 3-pointers while Hubbard hit four.
The All-American Conference is an OHSAA-sanctioned league, created in 2008 as the result of the merger between the Trumbull Athletic Conference and the Metro Athletic Conference in Ohio. The league has 21 different member schools, with 17 sports offered throughout fall, winter and spring sports seasons.
