SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — Lakeside has a new baseball coach for the 2019 season, but he is no stranger to county circles.
Jared Sziber, who spent the past five years as head coach at Geneva, will lead the Dragons.
"It was like the perfect storm," he said. "At the time, I didn't want to make the switch and could have made it work, but I hold myself to high standards and it would have added a lot. We just had our second child."
Sziber is a special education teacher at LHS and replaces Justin Street, who left to pursue educational opportunities.
Sziber went 67-48 in his time at Geneva, finishing as Division II Jefferson District runners-up in 2014 and '16. He is a 2011 Notre Dame College graduate and also attended and played baseball at Lake Erie College.
"Being able to recruit a coach the caliber of Jared was a huge step forward in changing the culture and mentality of our athletic department going forward," Lakeside Athletic Director Jason Baxter said. "I have no doubt Jared will make huge strides in year one for our baseball program and continue doing the positive work he has been doing at Geneva."
