WARREN — Patience paid off for Austintown Fitch which put together an excellent offensive game in run-ruling Warren G. Harding, 10-0, Monday in an All-American Conference Red Tier softball game at Burbank Park.
Fitch coach Bob Jones said he just wanted his team to be patient at the plate.
“Our approach was to just wait for our pitch, where sometimes we get overly aggressive, and today we had our weight back and came through the zone on good pitches and had good hits.
“We give a lot of freedom to our batters and base runners, if they see an opportunity or an opening, we challenge them to be aggressive, especially on the basepaths. If they’re seeing the ball, and if they think they can get that extra base, then go.”
Harding coach Meghan Poe said she thought her team didn’t bring enough energy.
The All-American Conference is an OHSAA-sanctioned league, created in 2008 as the result of the merger between the Trumbull Athletic Conference and the Metro Athletic Conference in Ohio. The league has 21 different member schools, with 17 sports offered throughout fall, winter and spring sports seasons.
