CHAMPION 30, CAMPBELL 29: CHAMPION — Campbell came within one point with 1:25 remaining on James Shaffer’s 50-yard pass from Christian Stores. However, the two-point run on the conversion was no good, leaving Champion (7-1, 4-0 All-American Conference, Blue Tier) to run out the clock and continue its winning streak to seven games. The Golden Flashes are sixth in Division V, Region 17, currently in playoff position.

Champion had 50 carries for 266 yards, led by Austin Willforth, who had 18 carries for 82 yards and two scores.

NEWTON FALLS 28, LISBON 7: NEWTON FALLS — Nicholas Oyster threw for three touchdowns as host Newton Falls snapped a six-game losing streak by downing Lisbon in a non-league contest. The Tigers, who beat Waterloo, 28-18, in the opener, moved to 2-7. Oyster completed 12 of 19 passes for 123 yards, with scoring strikes to Adam Honeycutt (20 yards), Paul Broadrick (7) and Shayne Battison (22). Jacob Wright added a 16-yard touchdown run for Newton Falls, which scored one touchdown in every quarter.

Lisbon pulled within 21-7 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Oyster-to-Battison score secured the victory. Wright rushed for 70 yards on 23 carries and Oyster added 35 on six runs.
