STOW — The Canfield Cardinals served up a scare to Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary with a 3-0 sweep in the Division II volleyball regional semifinals on Halloween night.
From the opening point it was all Canfield as the senior-laden Cardinals fired on all cylinders to a 25-15 first set victory.
“It was a great day and it was a great semifinal,” Canfield coach Maria Householder said. “We were cautiously confident coming in, pretty sure we could win it, but you never want to say for sure.
“The girls did their job. As we talked about all week, if we just do our jobs, I think this game’s in the bag.”
Canfield (18-5) advances to the regional title game Saturday at 2 p.m. against Gilmour Academy or Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin.
The energy from the first set continued all the way through, as the Cardinals claimed the second and third sets 25-12 and 25-19.
