WARREN — Upset avoided.
Warren G. Harding junior Faith Burch fell face first to the floor after pulling down her 16th rebound of the contest. Raiders coach Frank Caputo called time out with Harding up four with 4 minutes left in regulation of a Division I sectional bracket final against Hudson on Thursday.
When play resumed, Burch was fouled and powered the ball up and in. She also had a putback in the closing minutes, helping Harding (21-2) advance, 38-28, to the next round of the tournament. Burch finished with a double-double — 10 points and the 16 boards.
“The game wasn’t a pretty look for us,” Burch said. “The third quarter is usually our worst quarter. Now that we’ve experienced a bad third quarter in the tournament, we’re going to really fix some things. We’ll be better from here.
“I didn’t have my feet under me when I fell to the floor. I was flopping everywhere. It was like freshman year. I was very intense for the team. When I would see the ball, I had to get it.”
