Boardman’s boys basketball team passed two significant tests Tuesday night.
First, the Spartans beat one of the All-American Conference’s elite teams in the Struthers Wildcats, 44-37. In the process, Boardman (9-1) showed it could win a game without leading scorer Holden Lipke.
Lipke, the only Spartan who scores in double figures, woke up Tuesday morning with pain in his neck and was unable to play, coach Pat Birch said. Lipke is considered day-to-day.
The All-American Conference is an OHSAA-sanctioned league, created in 2008 as the result of the merger between the Trumbull Athletic Conference and the Metro Athletic Conference in Ohio. The league has 21 different member schools, with 17 sports offered throughout fall, winter and spring sports seasons.
