STRUTHERS — The third time was not the charm for the Niles girls basketball team, as it fell to the Struthers Wildcats, 55-29, in Thursday’s Division II sectional bracket final at Struthers Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats never trailed, leading by as many as 19 points in the first half, as they beat the Red Dragons for the third time this season.
“Their passion for the game and their intensity for the game, we just couldn’t match it,” Niles coach Doug Foster said of Struthers. “They’re (Struthers) a little bigger-sized (than us), so when we’re not hitting shots, when those girls (Dakota Naples and Amanda Blank) aren’t putting the ball in the basket, then it’s a long night for us.”
