WARREN — The Warren G. Harding boys soccer team (0-9-1) seemed ready to go early as they came in as underdogs against Howland, but that didn’t last forever. The Tigers defeated Harding, 3-0, on the strength of three first-half goals.
With just over 10 minutes gone in the first half, Howland (9-2-1) got on the scoreboard when Manny Perez scored the first of his two goals.
Later in the first half, Gabe Atawail scored from 10 yards out to make it 2-0.
“That was the key,” Howland coach Brian Stiles said. “We know that they like to bunker and play us pretty well defensively. We knew that if we got some goals early on, that could open up the game a bit.”
