RAVENNA — Aurora’s Dan French drove near the goal with about 6 minutes remaining. It was one of a few scoring opportunities the Greenmen produced in the second half of Wednesday’s Division II, Region 5 boys soccer semifinal at Ravenna Stadium.
Howland was on its heels, trying to defend the increasing onslaught.
With 3:50 left, Rees Jones fed a pass to French on the left side of the 18-yard box. French stood alone, dribbled forward and landed a shot to the bottom right of the net, just out of the reach of diving Howland goalkeeper Michael Schwartz.
It was the lone goal in a 1-0 final as the Greenmen advanced to play Hawken in Saturday’s Region 5 final.
