After being knocked out of the Division II Alliance District semifinals a year ago by West Branch, 7-2, the Lakeview Bulldogs are hungry and ready to go yet again.
Coming off a 16-win season that saw them place second in the All-American Conference White Tier, the Bulldogs bring back seven returning letter winners. They also have three returning seniors and four new upperclassmen on the roster. First-year coach Scott Chronister knows exactly what he has this year.
“We had a pretty sizable turnover on our roster from the year before. Ironically enough, the outgoing seniors didn’t change the lineup as much as expected,” Chronister said. “Avrey (Steiner) at shortstop and Cait Kelm in the circle is our workhorse. She takes the ball every game when we ask her and does the job well. That’s where it starts for us on defense.”
Defense was a large part of Lakeview’s success a year ago and figures to be huge once again. Last season, the Bulldogs gave up just 3.7 runs per game in 21 games.
The All-American Conference is an OHSAA-sanctioned league, created in 2008 as the result of the merger between the Trumbull Athletic Conference and the Metro Athletic Conference in Ohio. The league has 21 different member schools, with 17 sports offered throughout fall, winter and spring sports seasons.
