SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — Lakeside High School has a new athletic director.
Jason Baxter, the assistant athletic director for the South Euclid Lyndhurst School District, was hired Wednesday night by the Ashtabula Area City Schools Board of Education. He brings with him experience in junior high athletics, assisting at the high school with event/facility management, media relations, social media, scheduling and strategic planning.
Baxter was hired on a 240-day, three-year contract at a salary of $59,076 the first year with a 2-percent raise a year.
“We are happy to have Jason join the AACS team,” Superintendent Mark Potts said. “His passion and enthusiasm for high school sports is very obvious. I am certain he will positively impact LHS athletics.”
Baxter takes over for Mike Cochran, who resigned last month and has been hired to work in the Canfield athletic department.
“I was looking for a chance to grow professionally and lead my own athletic department,” Baxter said. “There are a ton of positives and facility upgrades. It’s a changing of the guard. We’re making a more positive experience for the athlete.”
One of Baxter’s main goals is to bring Lakeside to the forefront.
