AAC Student-Athlete Spotlight of the Week Q/A: Lainie Simons-Austintown Fitch Falcons

Each week, the All American Conference will present a "Q & A" with one of its many gifted student-athletes from a participating AAC school.  The athlete featured must excel in the classroom and shown that he/her has gone above and beyond on both the field of play and by volunteering in his/her community.  This week's featured student athlete player is Lainie Simons from Austintown Fitch Falcons.

Sport: Volleyball
Position: Outside Hitter
Class: 2019
GPA:  4.0

What are your plans after graduation? 
I plan to go to college, and major in biochemistry.

What is your favorite class?  Biology was my favorite class. 
This year it is Comparative Anatomy & Physiology (CAP).

What do you enjoy most about playing this sport? 
Volleyball is a sport where teamwork is a must and the bonds you make when everyone truly works together are unbreakable.   Also, after a mistake, one can make up for it the next play. 

What type of volunteer work are you involved in within your community? 
I am a member of National Honor Society, Interact Club, Key Club, Link Crew, and Students Serving Veterans.  Throughout all of these clubs, I recycle throughout the school, run Blood Drives and Food Drives, tutor, help freshman acclimate to their new high school setting, trick-or-treat for UNICEF (collecting money),  assisting in the Veterans’ Day Concert, sitting with veterans during lunches, and serving lunches to the football players during their twice a day practices. 

What is the most memorable moment in your scholastic career? 
NHS induction or maintaining a 4.0

What is your favorite sports related movie? 
The Blind Side

Do you have any pre-game rituals? 
My mom putting in my ribbon for me.

Who has the best nickname on the team? And what is it? 
Emma Bartlett does and it is Jojo Fartlett.

Who is your role model?
My parents are my role models.  I take the best parts of them and model myself after that.

Do you have any special talents or is there something surprising about you that others might not know about you? 
I collect keychains, I love Disney movies and trivia, I like making ceramics, and I love play board games with my family.

What is your favorite food? 
Quesadilla

What song best describes you or is the soundtrack to your life? 
Man in the Mirror

Are you looking to continue your playing career in college? 
Yes, but softball

Do you have a field of study already chosen for college? Why that field? 
Biology, it is a good major to become a doctor

What team do you most enthusiastically root for? 
Fitch Football team & Duke basketball

A favorite quote that you live by? 
“A thing worth doing is a thing worth doing well”


All-American Conference

The All-American Conference is an OHSAA-sanctioned league, created in 2008 as the result of the merger between the Trumbull Athletic Conference and the Metro Athletic Conference in Ohio. The league has 21 different member schools, with 17 sports offered throughout fall, winter and spring sports seasons.
