SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — Even in victory, the Lakeside basketball team has not always had a lot to smile about so far this season.
Friday night was a little different — especially in the third quarter — during the Dragons 75-59 win over Girard.
Up 15 points against the Indians, Lakeside senior Courtez Vaughn came up with a steal out of the Dragons zone defense, one of five he’d have in the game.
He quickly found Brandon Ford breaking to the other end, but instead of Ford cashing out the easy layup, he banged it off the window to a trailing Marquis West, who grabbed the ricochet and threw it down with the right hand.
The NBA All-Star type play was the highlight of a 23-9 third-quarter outburst by the Dragons in the win.
Normally, a stickler for fundamentals and plain old fashioned defense, Lakeside coach Rob Pisano enjoyed watching the boys have some fun.
