Lakeview junior Seth Dunn topped all Division II boys bowlers Friday in the state tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl to showcase an excellent day by local bowlers.
Dunn rolled a 703 series in the three-game qualifying that includes all bowlers — team and individual — at the state meet. His teammate, freshman Conner Pawlosky, finished fifth overall with a 632 score.
Liberty also had two individuals in the top 10, as seniors Alex Hlaudy and Andrew Everly finished eighth and ninth, respectively, with scores of 618 and 612.
In the team competition, Lakeview qualified fourth of the 16 teams and Girard was seventh. The top eight teams advance to a single-elimination tournament. Liberty missed qualifying for the quarterfinals by 22 pins and finished 10th.

Holiday Bowl in Struthers, was the site, as the All-American Conference hosted it’s end of season tournament. Sixteen boys and 16 girls teams bowled on the Kegel 3240 Challenge Series Pattern, the same pattern being used at the Sectional and District level competitions on the way to the OHSAA State Finals Tournament. At stake, the tournament championship team honor, and the tournament MVP in each tier. The teams bowled 2 team games, followed by 5 Baker games, with total pin count deciding the winners.
For the Red Tier, on the girls side, Austintown Fitch ladies squad led by Senior, Erin Harper (187-179, 366), rolled a total 2163, followed by Boardman(2075), Harding(1996), Canfield(1960), Howland(1832), and Lakeside(1728). Harper was the Red Tier girls tournament MVP. For the boys, the Howland Tigers, with a total pinfall of 2448, claimed the victory. Rounding out the scoring, Harding(2427), Austintown(2400), Boardman(2163), Lakeside(2045), and Canfield(1914). Austintown Fitch senior Mitch Desaito nabbed MVP honors with a 183 and 203 for a 386 set.
In the White Tier girls, Hubbard’s Lady Eagles captured the win with a 2200 team total. They were led by MVP Jenny Reebel. The sophomore bowled a 160 and 170 for her 330 set. Struthers (1966) came in second, followed by Lakeview(1931), Niles(1816), and Liberty(1644). White tier boys saw the Struthers Wildcats come out on top with a tournament high 2628 team total. They were led by MVP, freshman, Jared Medvec, and his 190-204, 394 set. Hubbard(2579), Lakeview (2416), Niles (2407), and Liberty (2370) rounded out the scoring.
Blue tier saw a sweep by the squads from Girard. The girls won with a 2216 tally, while the boys gained a 2428 total pinfall. The Indians wed led by MVPs, sophomore Heidi Troutman (184-158, 342), and junior Donny Bishop (195-223, 418). The remaining tier results were LaBrae(1958), Campbell(1841), Brookfield(1798), and Champion(1600), for the girls, while the boys finished with Champion(2359), Brookfield(2140), LaBrae (2110), and Campbell (1794).
During the tournament, regular season tier champions and All-conference honors were announced. For the Red Tier regular season champs, Warren Harding and Austintown Fitch were co-champs for the boys, while Austintown took the crown for the girls. White tier had Struthers and Lakeview share the top honor on the boy’s side, and Hubbard Lady Eagles win it for the girls. Blue tier saw the Girard Indians take both the boys and girls championships.
In other conference news, the state tournament trail got underway last weekend as bowlers around the state started their bid for a championship when they are held in Columbus in March. Sectional tournaments were held with advancers earning a spot, as a team qualifier or individual qualifier, for the district tournament to be held at Wedgewood Lanes in Austintown on Feb. 24 and 25 for both divisions I and II. District qualifiers include: Austintown Fitch (boys and girls), Girard (boys and girls), Hubbard (boys and girls), Lakeview boys, Liberty boys, and Struthers boys. Individuals that qualified: Ben Burkey (Boardman), Emilee Bebech (Brookfield), Nate McKean(Champion), Jessica Guesman (Howland), Mason Persons (LaBrae), Molly Jones (LaBrae), Shon Moore (Warren Harding), and Zoey Schoolcraft (Warren Harding).
